BuddhaCat Publishing is an independent app publisher based in Munich, Germany, founded by Jan Schulenberg. Publishing apps is not new territory for Schulenberg: over 15 years ago, his word-based clock app “time2words” (“ZEITschrift”) surpassed 200,000 downloads. After years in the corporate world, he returned to his roots as an independent developer with BuddhaCat Publishing. The studio develops digital products with a focus on design, wellbeing, mindfulness, and privacy – software with heart. Further apps are already in development.

Jan Schulenberg is the founder and owner of BuddhaCat Publishing. After more than 15 years in the corporate world, he returned in 2025 to his roots as an independent app developer. He has a proven track record of building apps that reach large audiences: his word-based clock app “time2words” (“ZEITschrift”) achieved over 200,000 downloads and was named iPad App of the Week by Apple. Happy Journal grew out of a personal experience – the desire to notice the good in everyday life more consciously and capture it effortlessly. Jan Schulenberg lives and works in Munich, Germany.
